WATCH: First Hearing for the Innocence Act to Protect Kids from Porn, AI Deepfakes

House Bill 84 (HB84), sponsored by State Representatives Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge Twp.) and Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.), is scheduled to receive its first hearing in the Ohio House Technology and Innovation Committee today–March 11–at 10:00 am.

Known as the Innocence Act, this bill would protect children from the porn industry by requiring Ohioans to provide ID for age verification when accessing obscene websites.

The Innocence Act would also prohibit a person’s image from being used against their will to create sexual content, such as “deepfakes” made using artificial intelligence.

The Rundown: How 97% could rise above poverty

When comparing 100 large US cities, Columbus ranks 77th for middle-class income, with a range of $41,563 to $124,700, depending on household size. Unfortunately, Columbus' rank is Ohio's best with Cincinnati ranked at 93rd, Toledo at 98th, and Cleveland at 99th, where the income range is $26,025 to $78,082. However, the story doesn't have to end there. Following the "Success Sequence"—graduating from high school, securing full-time employment, and getting married before having children—would mean that as many as 97% of young adults would rise above poverty.

Senate Bill 68 (SB68), sponsored by State Senator Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario), is scheduled to receive a proponent hearing during the Ohio Senate Finance Committee session today–February 25–at 2:00 pm. 

SB68 would expand Ohio's school choice program to students attending nonchartered nonpublic schools by establishing educational savings accounts (ESAs). Troy McIntosh will testify in support of the bill.

The report includes the Family Structure Index, which ranks all 50 US states based on their family culture, and a strategic plan to rebuild families with public policy and cultural solutions in Ohio.
