Watch Now: CCV's Troy McIntosh to testify on bill to expand school choice
Get the Scoop
Senate Bill 68 (SB68), sponsored by State Senator Mark Romanchuk (R-Ontario), is scheduled to receive a proponent hearing during the Ohio Senate Finance Committee session today–February 25–at 2:00 pm.
SB68 would expand Ohio's school choice program to students attending nonchartered nonpublic schools by establishing educational savings accounts (ESAs).
The more you know: A nonchartered nonpublic school is a religious private school that does not have a state charter. These schools cannot accept EdChoice scholarships.
SB68 would set the ESA award amount for each school year at 90% of the EdChoice scholarship. Students could use the ESA for tuition or services at their nonchartered school.
Students with a family income at or above 450% of the federal poverty level (FPL) would receive partial scholarships.
