BREAKING NEWS: Ohio Senate Passes CCV-backed SB1 to Ban DEI at Ohio's Colleges
COLUMBUS–Moments ago, the Ohio Senate passed the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act (SB1) with a 21-11 vote.
Sponsored by Senator Jerry Cirino (R-Kirtland), the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act would ban DEI courses, training, and required statements; spending on DEI initiatives or programs with the same intent; and political and ideological litmus tests in all hiring, promotion, and admissions decisions at Ohio's state colleges and universities.
The following statement is from Monty Lobb, Executive Director of the Christian Business Partnership, a partner ministry of Center for Christian Virtue:
"On behalf of hundreds of Ohio businesses and numerous Ohioans who care about a quality of life, workforce development, academic freedom, and a blow to woke culture, I want to thank Sen. Kristina Roegner, Chair of the Higher Education Committee, and Sen. Jerry Cirino, sponsor of the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act (SB1) and Vice Chair of the Higher Education Committee, for diligently and patiently shepherding this landmark legislation through the Senate.
"SB1 will only add to free speech and help create environments that allow true intellectual diversity. I now urge the Ohio House of Representatives to take up this bill with all expediency."
Rep. Tom Young (R-Washington Twp.) is sponsoring the companion bill moving through the Ohio House of Representatives.
