Get the Scoop
Senate Bill 156 (SB156), sponsored by Senator Al Cutrona (R-Canfield), and Senate Bill 34 (SB34), sponsored by Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott), are both scheduled to be heard this morning—Tuesday, April 1—during the 10:00 am Senate Education Committee.
SB156 – Teaching the Success Sequence
SB156 would require public schools to teach students in grades 6 to 12 about the Success Sequence, a research-based formula revealing that 97% of individuals who graduate high school, obtain full-time work, and marry before having children will avoid poverty as adults.
The Success Sequence is one of the key policy solutions to strengthen Ohio families suggested in Center for Christian Virtue’s Hope and a Future report.
SB34 – Historical Education Displays Act
SB34, known as the Historical Education Displays Act, would require public schools to display at least one of the following historical documents in each classroom:
The Ten Commandments
Mayflower Compact
Declaration of Independence
Mottoes of the US and Ohio
Magna Carta
Bill of Rights
US Constitution
Articles of Confederation
The bill would also allow schools to erect a monument featuring any of these historical texts, including the Ten Commandments.
