Watch Now: First Hearing for Senate Bill to Protect Children from Obscene Websites

COLUMBUS—Senate Bill 212 (SB212), sponsored by Senators Stephanie Kunze (R-Dublin) and Bill DeMora (D-Columbus), is scheduled to receive its first hearing before the Senate Financial Institutions and Technology Committee today–Tuesday, April 23–during its 9:30 am session.

Similar to the Innocence Act (HB295) in the Ohio House of Representatives, SB212 aims to protect children from the porn industry by requiring Ohioans to provide ID for age verification when accessing obscene websites.

Please note that the Committee's agenda may include other bills for consideration, and SB212 may not be the first to be heard. Committee hearings at the Ohio Statehouse are open to the public.

Watch Sens. Kunze and DeMora give sponsor testimony for SB212.

If you're unable to watch the hearing live, you can watch the recording once it's posted.

To become law, a bill must go through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval. Read the bill and see its progress through the legislature here.
