BREAKING NEWS: AG Yost Goes to State Supreme Court to Protect Kids
Statement from Center for Christian Virtue (CCV) President Aaron Baer
COLUMBUS – Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed an emergency motion with the State Supreme Court today asking the high court to overturn a broad and harmful decision from Franklin County Court Judge Michael Holbrook blocking House Bill 68 from taking effect. Last week, Judge Holbrook placed a statewide hold on the entirety of the CCV-backed HB68, which prohibits transgender medicine on children, and protects girls from being forced to compete against boys.
The law was due to go into effect on Thursday, April 24, before Judge Holbrook issued his Temporary Restraining Order.
“Attorney General Dave Yost is standing up for Ohio’s children and the rule of law by challenging Judge Holbrook’s ill-reasoned, and politically charged judicial opinion,” said Aaron Baer, President of Center for Christian Virtue. “If allowed to stand, Judge Holbrook’s activist decision turns our state government upside down, and gives one county control over the entire state. CCV urges the Ohio Supreme Court to act quickly to uphold the law.”
According to a press release from Attorney General Yost’s office, “Yost’s motion notes how Holbrook’s overly broad injunction not only is illegal but also harms Ohioans by preventing the protective law from taking effect. The motion asks the Ohio Supreme Court to narrow the injunction and order Holbrook to act within the limits of his judicial authority.”
“One judge from one county does not have more power than the governor’s veto pen,” Attorney General Yost said in the filing.
