Watch: CCV's Nilani Jawahar Testifying on Bill to Prohibit State Funding of Abortion
COLUMBUS–House Bill 475 (HB475), sponsored by Representative Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Twp.), is scheduled to receive a proponent hearing before the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee today–Tuesday, November 12–at 1:00 pm.
HB475 would prohibit state funds from being given to any entity that supports, promotes, or provides abortions; require local governments to report abortion-related spending; and withhold government funds from any local government that spends state dollars on abortion, and reallocate that funding to pregnancy resource centers.
Watch CCV's Legislative Liaison Nilani Jawahar give proponent testimony for HB475. You can also read a copy of her submitted testimony here.
Please note that the Committee's agenda may include other bills for consideration, and this bill may not be the first one to be heard. Committee hearings at the Ohio Statehouse are open to the public.
If you're unable to attend the hearing, you watch the recording once it's been posted.
To become law, a bill must go through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval.
