Watch: CCV's David Mahan Testifies on Bill to Protect Kids from Inappropriate Adult Performances

COLUMBUS–House Bill 245 (HB245), sponsored by Representatives Angie King (R-Celina) and Josh Williams (R-Sylvania), is scheduled to receive a proponent hearing before the Ohio House Criminal Justice Committee today–Wednesday, June 5–at 12:00 pm.

HB245 would protect children from being subjected to lewd or obscene adult entertainment in public by requiring that such performances be restricted to adult cabaret settings.

"When we see something, we have been instructed to say something," said David Mahan, CCV Policy Director. "The two bill sponsors of HB245, their 41 cosponsors, and the 66 percent of Ohioans that say that children should never be exposed to drag shows and other adult performances, have done just that. I applaud Representatives King and Williams for listening to the will of the people and championing this common-sense legislation."

Please note that the Committee's agenda may include other bills for consideration, and HB245 may not be the first one to be heard. Committee hearings at the Ohio Statehouse are open to the public.

Watch CCV's Policy Director David Mahan give proponent testimony for HB245.

If you're unable to attend the hearing, you watch the recording once it's posted.

To become law, a bill must go through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval. Read the bill and see its progress through the legislature here.
