BREAKING NEWS: Ohio Senate Passes Budget Making Every Student Eligible for a K-12 Scholarship
COLUMBUS–This morning, the Ohio Senate passed their budget proposal. Included in the budget was an expansion of the EdChoice scholarship program from 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) to 450 percent of the FPL. Families earning more than 450 percent of the FPL would be eligible for a portion of the scholarship on a sliding scale, down to approximately 10 percent of the scholarship amount based on their income. The proposed budget also increases the amount of the scholarship from approximately $5,500 for students K-8 to $6,100, and from $7,500 for students 9-12 to $8,400.
The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:
“The greatest challenge facing our state is the academic and moral failures of our education system. Shockingly low literacy rates and political agendas that treat parents as enemies and children as science experiments for transgender activists have created an unprecedented crisis.
“Correcting the course starts with school choice and enacting the Backpack Bill.
“The proposed Ohio Senate budget is a significant step towards reaching this goal by making every child eligible for a scholarship. This would represent one of the largest expansions of school choice in Ohio history. CCV supports this expansion and the Senate budget and encourages lawmakers to continue moving toward a system that universally funds all students at the same levels, and fully funds students, not systems.”
