BREAKING NEWS: CCV Backs Democrat Senators' Bill to Hold Dads Accountable

CCV Calls for Ohio to Pass Senator Maharath’s Bill to Hold Deadbeat Dads Accountable

COLUMBUS – In the wake of the overturning of Roe v Wade, and the enactment of the CCV-backed Heartbeat Bill, State Senator Tina Maharath, a Democrat from Canal Winchester, has proposed legislation to hold men accountable who cause unintended pregnancies, whether the sex that caused the pregnancy was consensual or not.

Center for Christian Virtue applauds Senator Maharath’s pro-family legislation, SB 262, and calls on the Ohio General Assembly and Governor Mike DeWine to enact the bill.

The following statement is from CCV President Aaron Baer:

“Now that Ohio has passed the Heartbeat Bill, and we’re on our way to protect life at the point of conception, it is time that we work to restore a culture that recognizes that sex requires commitment.

“Senator Tina Maharath’s legislation is an innovative approach to combat the hook-up culture that has led to broken lives, hurting women, and abandoned children. It’s time we hold these deadbeat dads accountable.

“The beauty of SB 262 is its simplicity. The biology this bill is based on is as basic as math: man + woman = child. We must hold the men that are entering this equation responsible for their actions, and this pro-family, pro-marriage legislation does just that.

“As we boldly step into Post-Roe America, restoring the dignity of human life requires that we restore a virtuous sexual ethic that leads men to stay with the women with whom they consensually engage in sexual activity, and provide for the children they create.

“We are evaluating SB 262 to see how we can strengthen this legislation, including increasing the settlement amounts women can force men to pay, but we’re grateful for Senator Maharath’s initiative and heart for women that brought this idea forward.

“Let’s go!”
