What You Need to Know About Ohio's August 2nd Special Election Next Tuesday

Elections look a little different this year. You may have noticed some offices were not listed on your ballot for the May primary due to the new district maps not being finalized in time.

That’s why this year there is a special election on August 2 to vote for these candidates.

The offices which appear on your August 2 ballot are:

  • Ohio State Senator

  • Ohio State Representative

  • State Central Committee Member

One of the closest races in May was decided by 644 folks just like you. Your vote matters.

So before casting your ballot, we encourage you to research your candidates and prayerfully consider whom to support.

As a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization, CCV cannot endorse or oppose candidates, so to help you get a feel for where the candidates on your ballot stand, here's a wide array of organizations from across the political spectrum who have made endorsements:

CCV is currently working on our nonpartisan Voter Guide for the General Election on November 8. Stay tuned for the release later this summer!

Next Steps

  1. Make sure you are registered to vote. The deadline for registration to vote in the special election was July 5th. If you missed it, you can still register to vote in preparation for the general election in November.

  2. View your sample ballot. This will give you the opportunity to research the candidates before voting.

  3. Find your polling location.

  4. Vote! The early voting schedule for this week is included below, and takes place at your local County Election Office.

    • July 26-29: 8 AM – 7 PM

    • July 30: 8 AM – 4 PM
