Protect Women Ohio Launches New Digital Ad Highlighting ACLU's Attack on Parental Rights

COLUMBUS—Protect Women Ohio (PWO), a pro-woman, pro-parent coalition, launched a new 60-second digital ad today highlighting the ACLU’s war on parental rights. The ad, entitled “All Our Kids,” is the newest in a series of ads aimed at defeating Ohio’s extreme and dangerous anti-parent ballot initiative.

The ad, which will run statewide on targeted digital platforms, opens with clips of President Joe Biden claiming the government should play the role of parent. It is followed by a series of concerned parents explaining how the ACLU’s radical amendment will remove them from the most important, life-altering decisions their children will make. The proposed amendment will eviscerate parental rights, and will allow minors to obtain abortions, and even gender reassignment procedures, without parental notification or consent.

“Joe Biden and the ACLU are completely out of touch with Ohio values,” said Molly Smith, PWO Board Member. “They are under the delusion that the government can take the place of parents. It is absurd, and Ohioans will vote down the ACLU’s dangerous amendment in November.”

Ad Text

Biden: You’ve heard me say it many times about our children, but it’s true. They’re all our children.

Biden: There’s no such thing as someone else’s child. No such thing as someone else’s child. Our nation’s children are all our children.

Narrator: As President Biden argues government can play the role of parents, here in Ohio the ACLU is trying to erase basic parental rights.

Libby: You as a parent have rights.

Linda: I can’t support something where I lose my parental rights.

Narrator: They proposed a constitutional amendment that would abolish parental notification and consent requirements that protect minor girls from undergoing an abortion or even sex change surgery without her parents’ knowledge or involvement.

Commentator: Do not tell me that he is not my child. Do not tell me it takes a village to raise my child.

Commentator: It’s anti-parent because it removes consent. And I can tell you that as a new mother, I will never allow intruders to lay a hand on my child without consent.

Background on the ACLU’s war on parental rights is available here. Heritage Action just released a report on the ACLU’s war on parents, and a video dissecting Ohio’s radical amendment proposal. The ACLU has a long and well-documented history of fighting against parental rights, including in Alaska and Indiana. The ACLU specifically calls out parental involvement on its website, saying it would restrict “teenagers’ access to abortion.”

A legal analysis of the extreme anti-parent amendment is available here from constitutional scholars Carrie Campbell Severino, President of Judicial Crisis Network, and Frank J. Scaturro, a former special counsel to the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives.

The first ad in PWO’s $5 million statewide ad buy can be viewed here.
