BREAKING: Ohio House Introduces CCV-Backed Pro-Family Bills

COLUMBUS–Yesterday, the Ohio House of Representatives introduced several bills backed by Center for Christian Virtue (CCV), including:

  • The Backpack Bill–House Bill 11, sponsored by Reps. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) and Marilyn John (R-Shelby), would empower families to choose the educational option that best meets their child’s needs by tying state resources directly to the student so that Ohio funds students and teachers instead of buildings and bureaucrats

  • The Save Women’s Sports Act–House Bill 6, sponsored by Rep. Jena Powell (R-Arcanum), would preserve the integrity of women’s sports by protecting female athletes from having to compete against biological males who have an unfair physical advantage over them

  • The Woman’s Right to Know Act–House Bill 15, sponsored by Reps. Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester) and Beth Lear (R-Galena), would require doctors to inform
women considering abortion of the harms of the procedure before it is performed

  • The Parents’ Bill of Rights–House Bill 8, sponsored by Reps. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) and Sara Carruthers (R-Hamilton), would require public schools to defer to parents when it comes to teaching sexual content to students, as well as protect students from being encouraged by school counselors to “socially transition” as the opposite sex without their parents’ knowledge

  • State School Board Reform–House Bill 12, sponsored by Reps. Don Jones (R-
Freeport) and Dave Dobos (R-Columbus), would restructure the State Board of
Education to promote greater efficiency in the decision-making processes that affect
    Ohio families

Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) has said these bills are a priority for House Republicans in the 135th Ohio General Assembly.

The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:

“Ohio’s children are facing a crisis. It’s encouraging to see lawmakers prioritize serving the needs of children by working to provide school choice for all, protect girls’ sports, and safeguard parental rights.

“This is an incredibly encouraging start by Speaker Stephens. Yet actions speak louder than words, especially when the health, safety, and education of children are on the line.

“I’m also grateful for Republican Caucus Leader Rep. Derek Merrin’s commitment to drive conservative policy at the statehouse. It appears Ohio may have missed the opportunity to protect our Constitution from out-of-state pro-abortion interests. We cannot allow the left to dictate terms at the General Assembly at the cost of unborn lives and families.

“With this courageous conservative agenda, Ohio can be a leader in protecting life, family, and freedom. Center for Christian Virtue looks forward to working with everyone who believes in a brighter future for our state and nation.”
