BREAKING NEWS: Judge Lifts Ban, CCV-Backed Heartbeat Bill Is Now Law!
Federal Court Lifts Injunction Against CCV-Backed Heartbeat Bill
CINCINNATI – Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v Wade, Federal District Court Judge Michael Barrett has dissolved the injunction he placed on the Center for Christian Virtue backed Heartbeat Bill, enabling the law to go into effect.
The Heartbeat Bill was passed in 2019, and bans abortion in Ohio once a heartbeat is detected in an unborn child, often as early as 6 weeks into a pregnancy.
Immediately following the decision from the Supreme Court this morning, Attorney General Yost filed a motion to dissolve the injunction, and the court acted quickly.
The following statement is from CCV President Aaron Baer:
“In Ohio, we believe that with God, all things are possible. Today, it’s been proven true once again as we see abortion banned in Ohio at the point a heartbeat is detected!
“For years, the pro-life movement strived to see the Heartbeat Bill become law. Through two vetoes and numerous defeats, we persevered, and now thousands of lives will be saved this year, and many more in the years to come!
“Abortion is senseless violence against unborn children and their mothers. We’re one step closer to completely banning this beastly procedure.
“The work is far from over, and Ohio needs to move to pass a bill to ban abortion at the point of conception, but today we celebrate what God has done through the faithfulness of His people!”
