CCV Appeals in Lucas County Case

CCV Files Appeal in Lawsuit Over Toledo-Lucas County Health Board Closing Schools

COLUMBUS—On December 14, U.S. District Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick of the U.S. District Court in Toledo denied a motion for a temporary restraining order against the Toledo-Lucas County Health Board. The TLCHB order closes in-person education for students in grades 7–12 through January 11, and took effect on December 4.

Earlier this afternoon, Citizens for Community Values, Monclova Christian Academy, St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy, and Emmanuel Christian School filed a notice of appeal, signifying their intent to take the case to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The following statement is from CCV President, Aaron Baer.

“We never wanted to file this lawsuit. In fact, before filing, we reached out to the Board in every way we could to encourage them not to pursue such a harmful, misguided, and wrongful course of action.

“The Lucas County Health Board was wrong to step on the religious freedom of the schools and students, and to deny them safe in-person education and athletics. We call on the Board to rescind their harmful order, and let children once again safely participate in their schools and sports.

“Unless and until they rescind their order, we will continue to fight the legal battle to protect religious freedom, and the right of Lucas County children to safely access in-person education.”
