Ohio liberals: Illiterate or lying?
Ohio House Liberals Continue to Push Misinformation About Student Religious Liberties Act
Statement from Citizens for Community Values President Aaron Baer
COLUMBUS – Last week, the Ohio House of Representatives passed the Student Religious Liberties Act (HB 164), sponsored by Rep. Tim Ginter, with a bi-partisan vote of 61-31.
Immediately following the passage of the bill, misinformation started spreading like wildfire. One erroneous headline read "House passes bill allowing student answers to be scientifically wrong due to religion."
“A completely baseless lie has spread across the country about the Ohio Student Religious Liberties Act,” said Aaron Baer, president of Citizens for Community Values. “Fed by inaccurate reporting, and absurd attacks from the ACLU and House Minority Party Leadership, people have started believing this bill is ‘anti-science.’ To be blunt, making this claim is anti-literacy.”
“If the ACLU, media, or House Democratic Leadership would have done their research before speaking, they would have seen that 10 other states have passed identical or nearly identical bills to HB 164, and there has never been an incident where students were allowed to turn in inaccurate work in the name of religion.”
“Those states include:
Indiana
Virginia
Missouri
North Carolina
Tennessee
Mississippi
Texas
Alabama
Arizona
South Carolina”

“What’s more, the Ohio House has passed this bill twice before in previous General Assemblies, and this ‘concern’ has never been raised before last week. That’s because this attack on HB 164 is so absurd that, until now, no one had the shame to push such a ridiculous lie.”
“What House liberals and many in the media have proven is that the Student Religious Liberties Act is desperately needed to provide clarity about what the First Amendment protects and prohibits.”
“Anyone who values diversity and freedom of religion for all students should support HB 164 and we look forward to an honest debate about the bill in the Senate.”
