Empowering Families: Ohio Senate Budget Takes Bold Steps to Help Students
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Senate released their budget bill this morning with crucial reforms to the Ohio school funding formula. The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:
“Ohio’s education system should be about students first. Our priority should be ensuring we have a system that can meet the diverse needs of our diverse population, and that’s exactly what’s reflected in the Senate budget bill.
“It’s just common sense: we should be focused on funding students and teachers, no matter where they are, not just on funding buildings and bureaucrats.
“By directly funding students on EdChoice and in Charter Schools through the education foundation in the budget, we’re moving Ohio closer and closer to prioritizing the specific needs of kids and unleashing the full potential of schools, whether they’re public, private, charter, online schools or in the home.
“And by increasing the amounts of EdChoice scholarships from $4,650 (K-8) and $6,000 (9-12) to $5,500 (K-8) and $7,500 (9-12), more private schools will be able to help students who need another option.
“Senate President Matt Huffman, Senate Finance Committee Chair Matt Dolan, and Senator Bill Blessing have led an incredible effort to develop an innovative and courageous approach to reform education in Ohio. We urge all Ohio lawmakers to build upon this momentum, pass this budget, and continue to work towards ensuring every student can access the education that best meets their needs.”
The Bill will be posted here shortly.
