States Can’t Discriminate Against Christian Schools
Statement from CCV President Aaron Baer

COLUMBUS – The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 in the Espinoza v. Montana case that Montana’s exclusion of religious schools from state scholarship programs funded by tax credits violates federal Constitution. The following statement is from the Citizens for Community Values and Ohio Christian Education Network President Aaron Baer:

“Across Ohio, Evangelical and Catholic schools are doing amazing work to nurture and educate the next generation. Today’s Supreme Court decision affirms what everyone already knows: discrimination against these schools is un-American.

“When the First Amendment prohibits the establishment of religion, it doesn’t elevate secularism above religion. It puts all worldviews on a level playing field. It was wrong for Montana – or any state – to penalize religious institutions because they are religious.

“While this is a significant victory, it’s troubling that four justices on the US Supreme Court believe religious bigotry is acceptable. It shows that the effort to defend our First Freedom – religious liberty – is more important than ever.”
