After a hard-fought election season, now the real work begins.WHAT A NIGHT!Issue 1 goes down BIG.Pro-life candidates sweep the board statewide.And the General Assembly is in a strong position to take on issues impacting churches, families, and the unborn.Going into Tuesday night, I don’t know anyone who predicted this outcome for Ohio. Polling was all over the map, but it seemed certain that this outcome was impossible.With millions of dollars pouring in from George Soros and Mark Zuckerberg, it seemed all but certain that this would have an impact. Yet Ohio voters weren't buying it. Here are my 5 key takeaways from the BIG, HUGE, FANTASTIC night last night.1) Money can’t buy you love (of drugs): Issue 1 was an absolute disaster for the state. It was the epitome of a wolf in sheep’s clothing – claiming to help addicts, but really bringing more drugs into Ohio. Despite millions of dollars pouring in for the Yes campaign, and a No campaign that was massively outspent, the voters saw through the spin and broadly rejected Issue 1.I can’t overstate how important it was that this went down. Setting aside how bad Issue 1 would have been for the opioid crisis, the precedent of out-of-state billionaires being able to buy off an Ohio election would have been terrible.2) Ohio is a pro-life state that loves religious freedom: Go back and read the coverage of the 3 gubernatorial debates Mike DeWine and Rich Cordray – you’ll find a common theme. Often times the media would end up drawing the same conclusions: the most stark differences between the two candidates are their stances on abortion and religious freedom. Mike DeWine has pledged to sign the Heartbeat Bill and veto anti-religious freedom legislation, Rich Cordray was determined to Make Abortion Great Again in Ohio and radically push laws that shut down Christian ministries and businesses.After Planned Parenthood and HRC dumped millions into Ohio to reshape our state’s future, it’s clear that these radical groups are out of touch with Buckeye voters.3) More people are paying attention, and that’s a good thing: As we drove the Values Bus across Ohio over the weekend, I was blessed by how many people were tuned into the election, and were anxious to go vote. Turn out was high, and voters spoke clearly. A more engaged electorate is a better and safer republic.4) One good night is not enough: If all we do it get people to vote, then let our politicians run wild, we have failed as voters, and as CCV! The real work begins now to hold our elected officials accountable – a lot of promises were made on the campaign trail and CCV will be holding these leaders accountable to all of them.But we can’t do this without you! Just like an election, making Ohio a better place for families, faith, and the unborn has to be done together.5) HEARTBEAT HEARTBEAT HEARTBEAT: IT’S TIME TO GET THE HEARTBEAT BILL DONE! We have waited too long – and we have a General Assembly and a governor-elect who all pledged to support this important bill.But why wait for 2019???My friends – I genuinely cannot contain my excitement this morning. While I know that we still face a lot of challenges, Ohio is in a better place today than we were yesterday. There is a lot of work cut out for us to secure our liberties for generations, but this is a TREMENDOUS first step.God bless you, and God Bless O-H-I-O!
