What Virginia means for Ohio

Virginia sent a resounding message across the country last night when they elected Glenn Youngkin governor: parents are powerful.

In the wake of battles over Critical Race Theory and Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity policies that allow boys in girls' bathrooms and sports, parents said that enough is enough, and stood up in a major way.

This isn’t about political parties. It’s about a backlash against a cultural movement on the left that has grown louder and more aggressive over the last several years. The left views children not as a gift from God to be stewarded by parents, but as property of the state to be molded into Marxists.

The victory in Virginia is especially relevant to Ohio. Over the last year, throughout the state, momentum has been growing to empower families to choose the best school for their children:

  1. The State Board of Education repealed a pro-Critical Race Theory resolution.

  2. The president of the State School Board, who advocated for the original resolution, then resigned.

  3. More than 53,000 parents have left the public schools over the last year.

  4. The state massively expanded school choice programs in the last budget.

At CCV’s American Leadership Forum last month, I asked every candidate where they stood on the Backpack Bill—the CCV-backed bill that would ensure every student in Ohio is eligible for a state-funded scholarship to attend the school of his or her choice.

Every candidate either directly backed the bill or supported the concept.

We cannot wait. As your read this email, there are countless children who are trapped in schools that are failing them academically, morally, and spiritually.

Virginia lit a fire, and now it’s up to us to fan the flame to fundamentally reform how we value parents and educate our children.

Take action today! Click the link below to BackpackBill.com to send your state lawmakers an email calling on them to pass the Backpack Bill!

We can’t let this moment pass us by! It’s up to us to take bold steps to fight for our children.

For our future, in Jesus’ name,
