Watch LIVE: David Mahan Testifies on Senate Bill to Prohibit AI-Generated Child Pornography

COLUMBUS—Senate Bill 217 (SB217), sponsored by Senators Louis W. Blessing III (R-Colerain Township) and Terry Johnson (R-McDermott), is scheduled to receive its second hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, May 22, at 9:30 am.

SB217 would prohibit AI-generated child pornography, making it a felony to create, distribute, buy, or possess any such material. SB217 would also require AI-generated content to have a watermark, and prohibit identity fraud using a replica of a person's likeness or voice.

Please note that the Committee's agenda may include other bills for consideration, and SB217 may not be the first to be heard. Committee hearings at the Ohio Statehouse are open to the public.

Watch CCV's Policy Director David Mahan give proponent testimony for SB217.

If you're unable to watch the hearing live, you can watch the recording once it's posted.

To become law, a bill must go through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval. Read the bill and see its progress through the legislature here.
