Breaking News: Senate Committee Passes Save Women's Sports, SAFE Act to Protect Kids from Trans Surgeries

COLUMBUS–Earlier today, the Ohio Senate Government Oversight Committee passed the CCV-backed Substitute House Bill 68 (HB68). With legislative activity pausing tomorrow for the holidays, HB68 must receive a full Senate Chamber floor vote this afternoon during the 1:30 pm session to be passed into law this year.

HB68 combines two bills acknowledging the inherent differences between men and women:

  • The Save Women’s Sports Act, sponsored by Representative Jena Powell (R-Arcanum), would preserve the integrity of women’s sports by protecting female athletes from having to compete against biological males.

  • The SAFE (Saving Adolescents From Experimentation) Act, sponsored by Representative Gary Click (R-Vickery), would ban dangerous puberty-blocking drugs, wrong-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries on children.

Center for Christian Virtue thanks Committee Chair Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson), Rep. Click, Rep. Powell, and all the other members who have tirelessly worked to get this critical, common-sense bill to this point.

CCV urges the entire General Assembly to act quickly to bring HB68 to a floor vote and onto the Governor's desk.

TAKE ACTION: Connect with your lawmakers!

Historically, opponents have brought up amendments at the last moment to water-down bills like HB68.

Will you take just 60 seconds to encourage your lawmakers to stand firm and pass the fully intact version of HB68?

Time is running out to get this bill past the finish line to the Governor's desk before legislative work pauses at the Statehouse for the holidays.

Please note that the agenda for the Senate Session includes other points for consideration, and HB68 may be brought up for a vote at any time.

To become law, a bill must go through both Chambers of the Ohio Statehouse to be sent to the governor for his approval. Read the bill and see its progress through the legislature here.
