BREAKING NEWS: Ohio Senate Passes HB8, the Parents' Bill of Rights and School Religious Released Time
COLUMBUS–Earlier today, the Ohio Senate passed House Bill 8 (HB8) with a 24-7 vote. It now heads to the Ohio House of Representatives for a concurrence vote.
HB8 contains two measures to promote parental rights: 1) The Parents' Bill of Rights protects the fundamental right of parents to make decisions regarding their child’s upbringing, care, and education, and 2) A measure to protect students' right to receive religious education during the school day through religious released time.
The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue Policy Director David Mahan:
"Today, Ohio Senators recognized that parents–not school boards–know what's best for their children. The Senate's passage of Amended House Bill 8 (HB8) marks another great win for Ohio parents and the rule of law regarding parental rights and religious freedom.
"I encourage Speaker Jason Stephens to bring HB8 to the House floor and all of the Representatives to vote in favor of this critical legislation."
