BREAKING NEWS: House Committee Passes Single-Sex Bathroom Privacy Bill

COLUMBUS–This morning, House Bill 183 (HB183) sponsored by Representative Beth Lear (R-Galena) and Representative Adam Bird (R-New Richmond), passed out of the Ohio House Higher Education Committee with a 10-5 vote. It must now head to the full House Chamber for a floor vote.

HB183 would require schools to designate separate bathrooms, locker rooms, and overnight accommodations for males and females in the school building, as well as any facility used for a school-sponsored event. If passed into law, HB183 would ensure men cannot claim to be female and enter women’s private spaces and vice versa.

The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue Legislative Liaison Nilani Jawahar:

"Women’s private spaces are not to be subject to social experimentation. The only people who have the right to be in the women’s restroom are women. We ought to be very skeptical of any man who is trying to convince us that he should be allowed in a space where young girls are undressing.

"Thank you to Representative Beth Lear and Representative Adam Bird for sponsoring the bill, and Chairman Tom Young and the other members who voted for this common-sense bill. The entire Ohio General Assembly must take action and pass House Bill 183."
